    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

This year is my first time buying Proof Gold Buffalo and Eagle coins. Is it better to keep them in the original mint packaging or have them slabbed? Thanks.

  3. Welcome to CT! It depend on your goals. Personally, I would keep them in their original mint packaging. TC

I would tend to agree with TC.

If you want slab, you can buy them that way too. I like em both ways, but tend to go with original packaging when given a choice. I keep my original packaging (such as First Spouse boxes) in a file cabinet. The coins I keep in a Safety deposit box. There just was not room of alot of boxes and other formers of holders.

I agree and I will add, that if you indeed want such coins slabbed, consider saving yourself the time, trouble and expense of submitting the coins yourself and just wait to buy them on the secondary or dealer market already slabbed and in the grade you want. If you submit yourself there is no guarantee of what grade you will get back even though most of these type modern coins come out of the in upper grades.

I do the exact same thing. The mint packaging can become quite cumbersome once your collection starts to grow.
