In my coin roll hunting for wheats, I typically save any pre-1990 cent I find that appear to be uncirculated (mostly just because BU cents from 1980s are getting harder to find in circulation now). One thing I've noticed is that I've found about half a dozen gold colored 1983s. I've always thought this was just a result of some odd toning, but it's starting to seem odd to me that I haven't found any of these for any other year except 1983. I certainly don't expect they would be worth anything, otherwise I wouldn't have found so many, but I am curious about them. Has anyone noticed the same thing and do you know if there was some special variety of the 83 penny that gives it that yellow/gold coloration?
