I found a 1980 penny that seems to be gold. It does not appear to have been painted and even the edges are a very shiny gold color. Has anyone heard of one of these? You can email me at progunr@yahoo.com.

More than likely its been plated....search this forum for Plated and you will see tons of such coins.
They aren't worth anything other than 1 cent.

    Hope this helps

    progunr,
For some reason, people seem to like plating cents with gold or brass. We've had a lot of people come into the forum asking about them. The one in the right of my photo was put out as advertising by Siemens Finanial Services and had a gold disk with their name and info glued to the back.Yours might be similar to this or just the product of someone with too much time on their hands. This has been going on for a long time.I have a large U.S cent from the 1840's that is also gold plated but of course, there's no way to tell when this was actually done.
