Anyone know where is a good place to purchace and price gold US coins. I just got a quote on Wall Street for 268 for 1/2 ounce US Eagles +$25 commision and 8.25% NY sales tax unless your buying over $1000.00 The problem is I'm looking at a 1925D 2.5 dollar Indian Head for $800.00 . Who the heck knows if this is a good price or not? The funny thing is that all these guys want cash as well. Ruben
Ruben... I would recommend you call Ken Schlosser...look up his website kenschlosser-coins.bigstep.com his phone number is listed and he is a great guy! I talk with him alot and he has helped me put together my sets of AGE and commems... Tell Him I sent you...but make up your own mind! I give him a 100% rating...look at the thread "latest addition to RickieB's collection" the 2002 $50 AGE was from Ken..thats the quality I am talking about! He handles old US Gold as well and will point you in the right direction! Good luck!! RickieB
Per Rickie's recommendation, I bought gold from Ken, too, as well as some commemoratives. Excellent coins.
Well according to the PCGS price guide, if the 2.5 Indian was accurately graded...if it is an MS63, you've got an okay deal, if it's an MS62 or lower, you're paying too much. Teletrade auction prices basically state the same thing. Graded MS63 coins have been going for $800-$825, anything lower than NGC or PCGS graded MS63 coins have been selling for significantly less. Even not far off, MS61 graded coins have been going for as low as $240 or $250 on Teletrade as of late. $317 is probably a little high for an ungraded half eagle of random date. It depends on the condition. If you could get it minus the 8.25% sales tax, I'd say you'd be in a little better shape. Gold is at about $503 / ounce as we speak.
It's not hard Ruben - all ya have to do is look it up. And I am talking about certified coins - On ebay - the '25-D quarter eagles -in MS61 are selling for approx $300 -in MS62 - approx $400 - $450 in MS64 - approx $1400 On Heritage - in MS61 - $275 to $350 in MS62 - $390 - $450 in MS63 - $800 - $1100 in MS64 - $1300 - $2100 Now you're gonna ask - why the wide range for the same grade ? That's because folks buy the coin, not the slab. Even though coins are graded the very same by the same company - one can look much nicer than the other.
