I was in a coin shop the other day and a guy came in and said that somebody tossed a few gold coins into a Salvation Army Red Kettle the other day across town. I did a little digging and he was telling the truth. It seems that this is fairly common in the Red Kettles as the Salvation Army receives gold coins every year. Wow! That's the Christmas spirit! :smile
It has become a Christmas "habit" for someone here in this part of he country to do this same thing at least once during the big rush to shop. Never have had any one step up and say it was them, so don't have any idea who it might be. If old GDJMSP were living in this part of the west, I would suspect him.
The guy that replaced my windshield said that he found a $20 gold piece in the air duct of a 55 Chevy. That, an a bunch of WWII military patches. The owner said that the car belonged to his father, and his grandfather before him. When the glass man placed all this stuff on the hood of the Chevy and asked the owner what he thought of that, the owner finally observed the gold coin. He then exclaimed that his father had claimed to his dying day that he had lost a gold coin in that Chevy. He further indicated that they all thought the old man was crazy. Who knew?
I read someplace that the Salvation Army gets 15-20 gold coins a year in the buckets. I wonder if that will happen with the price of gold where it is? Here's hoping it does.
I just hope they are keen eyed and the gold coin is cashed in for what it is worth and not mixed in with the heap when cashed in. So if any of you roll hunters find a gold coin better make a little donation to the SA. ha ha ha or I guess I should say Ho Ho Ho!
