I got this from a dealer and though it was somthing wrong with it and I saw in coin world that it was a die error, in coin world had the same date. Can you tell me how much more that it is worth with a error???
A cud looks kindof like this....(I think this one in the photo I'm showing is fake but am not sure) http://128.192.145.172/unknown/cud.jpg Your coin looks more like the metal wasn't mixed right..... Speedy
well, how much did you pay for it? Becuase he might have charged you more than he should have. I myself would pay less for a gold coin with an error, because it ruins the beauty of the gold. Still, very cool! Rob
It does not look like a cud. It looks more like a "shipwreck" coin with encrustations on it. If I were you, I would send it to NCS and see what they think. Charlie
Looks like a botched job of a base metal counterfeit with gold plating to me. I'd take it back to the dealer and demand my money back.
your are probably right GDJMSP I think it would be smart just to bring to coin back and demand that he gives you your money back!
I could be totally off base here, but my first reaction to this coin is ex-jewelry. It has the look of a coin that has been soldered into jewelry and then taken back out. I would guess that that is why the dealer said it was damaged......
Becky - take another look. You can actually see the where the plating over the base metal has been flaking off the coin in the areas I have marked with red. Even the relief of the plated layer is visible.
to tough to tell from quality of these pictures..what is the weight of the coin? 16.7180g is what the coin should weigh. every thing else is pure speculation.
No, it sounds like he has either an authentic coin, or a counterfeit with a correct weight. Don't forget - being significantly off weight is proof that a coin is fake, but correct weight merely means that it has passed one test in the arsenal of the authenticator.
Called the man I got the $10 gold coin from and since gold has gone up he will pay about $260.00 for it, I gave $150.00. I thank I'll sale it to him.
