Hey, that's my wife's name Anita ( pretty name) .
Okay Looks gold plated . I personally don't like it and believe in this condition that it's damaged. Probably worn as Jewelry at one point . IMHO

It seems you have a gilded piece like this one (possible from a set). Or maybe like Sensible Sal said a piece of jewelry that was removed from its setting.
The doubling you mentioned might be from lighting (but I do see what you're talking about).

 

Its been doctored,gold plated and highly polished worth melt value at least.
