My husband has a Gold $1 coin with president Adams on the front and the statue of liberty on the back. The coin was minted in philadelphia in 2007. It's in excellent condition, never been cleaned and it says "E Pluribus Unum In God We trust 2007" around the outer edge. It says "In God we Trust" on the back. On the front it has the years that either president adams was alive or the years that he was in service. I don't really remember which. Beginning in 2007, the US mint began a new program by minted "Presidential Dollars." These dollars are gold in appearance but actually contain no gold, they are composed of a pure copper core with an outer layer of manganese brass. Similar to the state quarters, these dollars are a series with multiple design releases during the year. Each year they release 4 different coins. The Adams quarter is the second in the series because John Adams was the second president. Last month, the most recent in the series was released (Andrew Jackson, Jackson was the 7th president). The series will continue until a living President (or a President who hasn't been dead for more than 2 years) is encountered. Currently, the series is planned to run through 2016. As was already said, they have made a ton of these coins so they really aren't worth any more than their $1 face value.
