I live about 50 miles from nowhere... Consequently, coin shops are few and far between. I'm actually traveling to Lexington KY next week and found there are a few coin shops there. What do you look for if you are going to a shop you have not been to before? Anyone on the forum have any favorite places near Lexington that they would like to share (it will keep me out of the gun stores!!). Thanks, Bill
You'll know pretty quick based on the vibe you get. If they don't seem to take you serious, move on. You shouldn't have to flash $100 bills around to get some honest, interested service.
just go in and strike up a conversation if they're not busy and you will get a feel for how they think. if busy listen to how they seem with customers as Sportpak says. then get to interests and prices. coin shops vary a lot, you just have to see.
i agree with the other replies. after going to so many stores you can generally sense what the place is like within a couple minutes
Check the hours online, some have kinda odd ones. Let them know what you want to look at, ask questions and get them talking. *There are quite a few that are basically glorified pawn shops/gold-silver buyers. You want to avoid them.
Unless they have an online store as well, try not to mention eBay. Also, if I browse in a coin shop and the owner is pleasant, I typically buy something. TC
