I have a large bucket of circulating change I have accumulated over the last 2 years. I am about to go through and bring it to the bank. Are there key circulating clad coins I may want to look out for before I turn this in? Jody, Cladking? Any advice? Thanks in advance everyone :)

    pre 1964 jefferson nickels keep
any washington quarter pre 70 that looks MS
    pre 70 halfs
and any year that a penny is known to have a DD, or RPM, look at them closely and make sure you are not taking one to the bank that could put you in good money wise. :D
None may be key-dates, but, I believe worthwhile to keep, I've saved up pre 64 jefferson nickels for years now, I have 40.00 face value now, I placed a roll of them on e-bay and got 8.00 for it, not bad at all I don't suppose.

Thanks Penny Case. Is DD double die? What is RPM? :)

DD is double die. 1972, 1983, 1984 are the lincoln dates to look through closely.

RPM is Repunched Mint Mark, there are lots and lots of rpms throughout the lincoln cent series, especially in the wheat cents, some more dates for DD's are 1994, on the reverse, where the colomns are, and a 1995, and 1997 has a doubled ear.

    Hi,

Although it's very unlikely that you will have anything of great value, it can be a lot of fun picking out dates/mintmarks, and filling up coin folders.

A great deal of personal satisfaction can be gained by completing some of these sets from circulation. You may wind up having to buy some of the tougher dates/mintmarks, but that's to be expected.

As far as circulated nickels go, I save the ones that are pre-1970.
If your looking for the ones that are worth more than face value, keep your eyes open for these dates/MM's...
    1955, 1951-S, 1950-D, 1950, 1949-S, all the silver-alloy issues, and all six issues from 1938 and 1939.

I would set aside just about anything that appeared to be uncirculated.
It won't hurt to keep your eyes peeled for error coins, either.
    Good luck.

Thanks everyone for the help. I already found a 55 Dime! I keep an eye out for the DD's, RPM's and special dates. I found 75 Canadian cent?

If you have any interest in the coins then your best bet is to just start a collection and save the best of each coin you can find. Soon you'll learn what it takes to be something unusual. Additionally there are dozens of varieties and some of these are quite valuable or seldom seen. The Cherrypickers guide is a good place to start but you'll also need the specific books foe each denomination. There is no book for the quarter yet so I'll list a few of the better ones of these but exclude the major raities and ones you should be able to spot.

Any pre-'72 issue with type "b" reverse.
    DDR '70-D
    '70-D struck on dime stock
    '76-D DDO
Any '77 to '84 with type "d" reverse. (look at the distance between the right side of the "n" in "unum" and the eagle's head. It is much farther on the type "d")
    '84-D/D
'85-P sm bust (look at the distance from the "e' in "liberty" to Washington's head)

There are many others which are either too unlikely to find or are too minor to attract much interest. There are also some which you might be found but you should notice if you're looking.

Watch for '82 dimes with no mint marks, '68 DDO's and '69 D/D.

    Good luck.
