Can you find a proof coin in circulation - yes. Does it happen often - no. Can you find a high grade proof coin in circulation - possibly. But if you do - it will likely be just luck. For it would only take a very short time - like in the first day - for that coin to be in a cash register or somebody's pocket to have enough marks & dings on it that it would not be high grade any more.

The cent I got having looked at it with a wide range of magnifying glasses , loupes and a microscopes find no ding and or scrapes, fingerprints, wear, and such. So I think it went from Grandpa's coin collection to stupid grandchild that cashed in the collection at the bank to a bank roll and to my place of employment where I noticed it in the shrinkwrap roller to my collection :) and the S appears to be double struck with two small tears in the clad layer around the upper loop in the S. :D

Nice find. I wouldn't expect something in the change drawer to grade very high, though.

I took it to a coin dealer and he said it was PR65 and with the Doubling on the S could bring a real nice price over $100.00. Not bad for a 1 cent investment. :D

PR65 is about what I would expect from a cash register find. But, it's not the monitary value that is pleasing here, it's the find.
