I’ve had this in my Whitman, but the glue on the obverse distracts me. I really think I’ll acetone submerge it. That and a gentle q tip should fix it up a bit.. right?
It should. These adhesives manufacturers used much more volatile solvents back then. If acetone doesn't budge it, you can bet that Xylene will.
I am still running on my money from working before school started. Only a couple grand left so I’m taking it slow. At this point I have very few holes left after @spirityoda gifted me 9 wheats I needed over the past month. While I’m at it. Others who have helped me with gifts and swaps are @Penny Luster @SchwaVB57 @Heavymetal @masterswimmer and more I can’t remember at the top of my head. i didn’t have much money to use on my collection as a young one (my parents are financially conservative and I hate using their money) so I missed out on all the best parts of being a young collector. I’m very happy you, @potty dollar 1878 and @Matthew Kruse both are YNs. I never had the chance for that!
Dang Evan.... You are making me want to take my old Whitman cent book out. I started mine in the 1970's and didn't plug those last half dozen holes until not all that many years ago..... That's a fine set you have.
Most are my circulation finds. others are swaps or gifts. I'm glad you like. I will be trying to finish these up sometime in the next couple years.
I find most of mine the same way,my best a beautiful 1902 indian from a roll and found a dateless buff a few days latter.
I had a terrible shape 1903 IHC at work a year ago or so. One of my coworkers knew I liked coins. Nothing special but it was nice. I had a 1897 barber dime, which is now my oldest find.
I have a folder. Not very full yet, I haven't had much time. I've found myself getting more and more into Jefferson nickel proofs. But I also have a set of Roosevelts and mercs id love to finish... I'm all over!
I haven't searched many nickels. I pick out the goodies I get in change mostly. some of these are bought. Thje
Would help with the cents if I could but all of the ones you are still missing are the ones I need for my second complete set!! Sorry!!!
I had a Morgan with some unsightly tape glue across the back. I can't find that original picture. If I had known what was going to happen I'd have shot a little video. But right to top bottom of the eagle was yellow glue like masking tape. It was about g4 so I thought lets experiment. Got a little jar and dropped it in acetone and within seconds it literally cleared before my eyes. You couldn't even see a difference like a toning line or anything.
