Where would be the best place to buy some cotton gloves, suitable for coin handling?

All the supply houses sell good soft gloves.

A few dollars for a dozen.

In case you don't know where to find supply houses I will just mention that I got my gloves from www.jpscorner.com.

    Any truth to this ?

I have heard that latex gloves are better because cotton gloves can still allow the oils on your fingers to pass thru to the coin.

If a person has that much oil on their fingers - I suggest they wash their hands ;)

But about latex gloves - I would not suggest them as most latex gloves have a film on them on the outside and some have a powder substance on the inside as well. Latex gloves will leave a smudge mark on any smooth surface they touch. Cotton does not.

But even if you are wearing gloves - cotton or otherwise - you still have to handle a coin correctly. That means only holding it by the edges and never touching the flat surfaces.

A photography supply shop should have cotton gloves.
