Hello, I am new to this site and I have a question. I was going through my pocket change and found a penny that appears to have a bunch of globs of extra metal on the reverse, does anyone know if this is common? Also the obverse seems fine, however the reverse seems like it's lacking detail, it has a sort of melted appearance, it's not sharp like the obverse. I will post a picture of the reverse, any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to CT, Joe. Those are plating bubbles. Common.

Is there a technical term for this effect Rick? I'm sure there is, but just can't remember what it is called.

Ok, thanks Rick. I am just getting back into collecting again, so I'll probably be annoying you guys with questions, lol. I had a nice collection when I was around 10 years old, but we were burglarized and they stole my collection and I just lost interest after that. I'm 60 years old now and starting to enjoy the hunt again, so I forgot most of what I knew when I was a kid. Between this site and doing my own research I hope to be back up and running in no time. Thanks again

You'll learn much here, Joe. I don't know much, either, but continue to learn. Any time I can, I'll be happy to help. Everyone here has the same attitude, too. No one here will ever be annoyed with a question unless you continue to ask the same one over and over and over.

I'm not sure of a technical term other than plating bubbles, Kirkuleez.
