I've never seen or heard of this grading company before, but my cousin has a GLGS-slabbed 1903 Morgan Dollar. I don't like the grade on it... too high. What do you guys think?
It that is wear on the Eagle's breast feathers and on Miss Liberty's hair instead of contact marks or distortion from the coin being in the TPG holder, then I would say AU-50 at best! Frank
The cheek on that coin looks too clean and the luster looks off (although it could be the photo). I would hazard a guess that it has been whizzed....Mike
In a 2004 posting in another forum a well-known collector and cataloger of slabs and slabbers, noted that he had seen a single scan of a GLGS coin, and had no other information. I'm usually pretty good at finding things with Google and/or its competitors, but that was the best I could do. My guess is another bottom feede like those whe shall remain nameless to protect the guiltyr.
GLGS Great Lakes Grading Service Probably owned by the late Norm Talbot. Most likely active in the late 1980's, possibly very early 1990's. If your cousin is reasonable I would like to acquire it. That is only the third GLGS slab I have seen. The owner of the second one cracked his and sent it into another grader and mailed me the empty slab, which disappeared in the mail. If he is interested go to my profile and send me an email. I don't get here very often anymore. This is the first time since 2/27 and I'm only here now because someone referred the thread to me.
