Although this 1917s Type one SLQ has seen better days I love this beautiful representation of America with Lady Liberty standing tall representing both peace and the ability to fight for what we believe in. I wish that today we still had coinage of this beauty today.
This is one of my favorite coins. It did not cost a lot and it looks a bit rough. I like it because it evokes a lot of US history in my mind.
This coin is in my collection because it comes from Hamburg, a city where my grandmother began her married life with my grandfather. Even though she didn't come from Hamburg originally, it is one of a couple cities/areas in Germany where my family "came from" so I have collections focusing on Hamburg and Altona, Kiel, the Eiderstedt area of Sch-Holstein (some smaller towns) and portions of the Sambia penninsula north-west of the former Konigsberg, and as an adjunct, Konigsberg itself. I had a special bond with my grandmother, so I try to remember her history and that of my grandfather also, as she was a committed wife/companion to him. The coin is very Prussian in style and design, and my grandparents were also very Prussian in their work ethic and lifestyle, so the strength this coin portrays to me melds very well with their being, and helps me remember my grandmother. .
well' i just happen to enjoy looking at this beautiful coin. i really appreciate the reverse of this coin and all of its history. what else can one say?
Thanks for the contest. My favorite coin happens to be a 1917 Type 1 SLQ graded by PCGS. I love Lady Liberty on the front with her strong stance. The eagle on the back is also very beautiful.
One of my favorite & more expensive ancients I own. I loved the beautiful bust of the god Victory & the toning is beautiful in hand.
Great, another chance to win a membership!! This here is my one of my latest gold coins and means a lot to me because of the date, first year. Never thought I'd be able to find one in a good grade for a good price and I got this one for $20 above spot. Thanks for the contest! :thumb:
Although I have alot of "favorite" coins this 1921 Peace Dollar is number 1, not because it is such great shape but because it was my father in laws, given to me a long time ago. I have replaced it with one that is in better grade but I keep this one in the desk drawer so I can look at it from time to time. Thanks for the contest....
I received this CS'd coin in the mail today and fell in love with it!! It is the personal counterstamp of a member here at CT (Bruce, BRandM), that he graciously gave to me. It is has superb toning, and the detail in the stamp is perfect. I proudly present...... Thank you very much for this AMAZING contest, Dutch!! Goodluck everyone! EDIT: This is stamped on the reverse of an 1848 U.S. Large cent.
for me, I'd have to go with my 1901 Half crown. This coin was given to me by my great-grandmother, and it pretty much started my interest in collecting coins.
Thanks for the contest, this is one the best prizes to win! I have MANY favorite coins for all different reason. This coin pretty much covers them all. I'm very interested in celtic history, the celtic knotwork on the reverse is outstanding IMO. I also like how it is toned. This toning was done by the mint when the coin was struck in 1930. Another reason I like this coin is because of who and where I got it. There aren't a whole lot of these out there that haven't been cleaned and destroyed. I concider myself quite lucky to have one that hasn't been completely stripped of it's character. Thanks Again for the contest! Mark
This is my 1923 Peace Dollar. It was my first peace dollar and every collector in my family back to the beginning of peace dollars has collected them.
A fairly recent purchase, this 1826 Classic Head half cent has rapidly become a favorite of mine, since it has introduced me to the world of old copper. I never realized how many truly beautiful coins from the 18th and 19th century, made out of such a "pedestrian" metal, awaited discovery.
Here's my 1921 Peace Dollar certified MS63 by NGC. I've always loved the one-year type design of this Peace Dollar. The high relief devices used make the coin that much more enjoyable in higher grades. Thanks for the generosity, Dutch! Good luck to all who enter! -Brian
I like this coins because it from france looks crazy good. One of the first cool world coins i got. It is also made from silver and 1866 (over 140 years old) Thanks for looking and hosting drawing!
Imperial Russian 1 Rouble 1913 I like this coin because of the irony of its creation and a more personal reason. The coin was minted to commemorate the 300th anniversary of rule by the Romanov family, and shows the first Czar next to the "current" czar in 1913 - Nicholas II. But, what no one knew is that a few years down the line Nicholas II would be toppled, Imperial Russia would become the Soviet Union, and Nicholas II would go down as the last Russian czar when he is murdered. So, the coin was originally minted as a celebration of 300 years of rule - and instead ended up as a summary of beginning and tragic end of 300 years of a family line and Imperial Russia as we knew it. On a more personal note, I am Russian, and this coin was passed down to me from my grandfather (my grandfather got it from his father) and was the very first coin in my collection.
