I have recently become interestedm in British coins. Can anyone recommend any usefull books that would help me? Also, is there a dealer price giude for UK coins like the Greysheet is for USA coins?
I would recommend the Spink Standard Catalogue of British Coins. I am not aware of the existance of a British 'Greysheet' (we don't use one) but we usually use a Spink Catalogue as a rough guide to how much we would be prepared to buy or sell coins at (often cross referenced with our own experience of the market at that particular time)...
I use Tony Clayton's comprehensive site for prices - updated every few months, and denominated in £. Also contains pictures of coins, etc - an invaluable resource! http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/coins.html I'd recommend the Coin Yearbook from Token Publishing ... annual publication, 2011 edition available: http://www.tokenpublishing.com/ One other useful site: www.predecimal.com (has a UK based forum too - you can see me on there from time to time) There isn't (as far as I am aware) a 'greysheet', but prices tend to not be as volatile as the US. Hope that helps!
I assume you're looking for info on modern coins, in which case Spink really would be the best choice. For earlier issues (pre-Tudor, mostly) the Sylloge of Coins of the British Isles is a gigantic and excellent work. Its available online, albeit in an unwieldy form, here: http://www.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/coins/emc/emc_search.php
