received allot of coins yesterday from my grandmother but most of them are mexican pesos, highest being $1000.00 peso. I also got some canadian, neatherlands, hong kong dimes, and one 1863 Vittorio Emanuele ll M L.1. anyway these mexican coin I'm pretty sure arn't worth much but does anyone know of how I could sell these? I may post them on here and maybe Ebay although I've never sold on ebay before. Sorry no pics right now and as soon as I sort through them i'll give some details and i'll try to get pics.
Yeah, gotta be a blast! :rolling: I had to do something similar with the foreign coins included in the collection I inherited.
Have fun sorting through the coins Remove the duplicates & consider mounting them all in new 2x2s in an album and label it Grandma's Coins of the World. You might even find that you want to add to it someday. Maybe you can sell/trade the duplicates for the 2x2s and album.
Well like I said, There mostly Mexican pesos and I dont really care for those. I do like the canadian, Hong Kong, And Netherland coins but there are only a few of those I much perfer U.S. coins. Heck I doubt anyone would be interested or do this but Ill trade them to anyone for us coins or even take a loss on there converted face value.
May I suggest you send your Grandmother a Thank You card? No e-mail thanks or txtmsg thks but an honest to God Hallmark Thank You card.
Still ok to send a thank you note. Miss Manners, Anne Landers, and Dear Abby would agree...good Lord I'm dating myself. :smile Ain't Grandma's terrific? You must keep some of them in a special place within your collection as coins (gifts) from family and friends should always be treasured. Even if the so called "value" isn't there (intrinsically speaking) a very special person was thinking of you when they bestowed this gift....
Well as far as the mexican coins go, if they are older than the mid 1990's then their face value will be little, if anything. Mexico phased out their old pesos after converting to the nuevo peso. I don't think they even accept the old ones anymore... at least no one would accept mine the last time I was there, but I didn't try any banks. A couple years back I heard that some places would still take them at an extremely decreased value - 1000pesos would be 10 nuevo pesos... but I doubt they even do that anymore since they have had the new currency for over 15 years now. Good idea on the thankyou card, even if you already did thank her... what a nice grandmother you have.
Another reason why collecting country coinage other than the U.S. may not necessarily be as popular... devaluation.
