It's a great coin show folks. Especially if you want to interact with the dealers. It's a nice venue and the people are friendly. I'll be back some day however if you're free, you should check it out! After you're done, head downtown and grab something to eat and drink. Make a day out of it. You won't regret it!
One of the dealers at our local (Raleigh NC) show last weekend had flyers promoting their appearance at this coming Battlefield show. I'll be in that neck of the woods, and might go over, but the chances are a bit slim. I generally go to shows to sell, and I won't have time to fish things out of the SDB this time.
Gettysburg is a nice little town with quaint little stores and restaurants to enjoy as well as the vast history of the battle.
It has been done for years. It works. If one thinks about it, the timing and weekend is a good slot, especially given the location.
It should be the weekend before, not the weekend after. I want to go, it’s close enough but totally the wrong weekend. At least for me it is.
The objection you make about the wrong weekend is based on your singular preference. That by no means applies as a consensus. As to the week before, that was the local equivalent Carroll County Les White Show, a very popular show and long ago it was realized the 2 shows drain from each other, and a gentlemen's agreement of sorts...and common sense.. prevailed. Gettysburg is totally right, in this geographic area. I can attest that Mike is not keen about losing money and customers, and the track record for the Gettysburg Show speaks volumes.
The show went well today with an attendance of 408. It seemed like everything was selling including circulated wheat cent rolls, proof sets, gold coins, silver bullion, Morgan dollars, early type coins, currency and all key date coins. I worked several tables while dealers took a break and at each table, I made at least one sale while they were away. Dealers were VERY happy with their sales. ANACS was busy. Geoff from ANACS was onsite accepting submissions and he only had a chance to take a bathroom break once from 9am-5pm. I met several board members. If you were at the show today, please post your experiences. It is the "right" weekend for most people in this area. In fact, we had travelers from other states stop by after seeing the show advertised.
-Saturday Report- Today was a relatively slow day with an attendance of 215. But...those who showed up were buyers and not tire kickers. One of the "mature" dealers asked me if I knew what I had done this weekend and I responded No. He said: You have created the Michigan State Fall show on the east coast. I don't know about that, but it made me feel good. There were no security problems that I am aware of. The security team briefed me after everybody was gone and they had no problems. Prior to the show, I sent out a security email to the dealers who were attending. Hopefully, they all observed the warning NOT to stop, eat and leave their vehicle unattended. ANACS was busy from opening to closing again today. Next show April 6-8, 2023.
