On most of the Gettysburg ATB quarters you can see the inscription (writing) on the pedestal the solider is mounted on. (not legible, but the impressions are there).

I have found on in a roll from the US Mint that does not show those impressions. They are blank - or perhaps just so lightly struck they are detectable.

The first two images show the impressions the last two show blank. If this was a circulated coin, I'd just assume they were worn.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks

It stands to reason that the writing would be wiped out as the the first victim
of die wear. Fine details such as this are just a poor choice for the design of a coin. Just my thought.
