Me again. Ok, so I scanned the New Orleans coins for you all at 200 dpi and I think they came out ok but they were not highly reflective coins and for some reason no matter what the reverse always comes out blurrier than the obverse. That's just weird. But I'm totally flummoxed about getting good scans of the highly reflective 1886 P I wanted to show you all and see if I could get some opinions on grade. I scanned it at a higher resolution (600 dpi) and it looked worse that than the New Orleans coins. It was blurry, looked like the coin lacked luster (untrue) and some of the details were just gone altogether as if the coins was worn in the high spots (and it's not worn at all!). Now I might have a poor scanner but I'm wondering if there are better ways to get good pics of coins?
Try elevating one end of the coin, sometimes an angle helps. Some people get pretty good results with scanners. I only have luck with worn out crusty coins scanning well, not mint state. Cameras do a better job with most coins, but it takes a lot of practice. Good luck, and keep trying!!:smile
Thank you, Becky, I'll try the titled thing and maybe a dark colored background. Otherwise it will have to wait until I get a new digital camera. My last one crapped out.
