If it were me I would not. It may only be the pics, but the coin may be an AU slider. Even if it is not - I would not grade the coin above 63. And a coin of that value just isn't worth it IMO unless you plan to sell at some point.

Let's see...1897-S with 5.825 million minted. Pretty much a common date, but prices do increase above MS63 compared to other dates. Also, the 1897-S is one of the best Morgan dollars for availability, strike, lustre, and everything we love about Morgans

Red Book has a MS63 1897-S Morgan at $100. From what I can see in your pictures, your coin looks to be in the AU range as I see definite wear above the ear (hair) and on the breast feathers. Also, the coin's fields are loaded with contact marks.

Remember...San Francisco Morgan minted coins were your best source for strikes and eye appeal. They had their act together in the quality control area...you just can't say the same for New Orlean strikes.

    Good luck.

My rule for slabbing business strike coins is that it has to be worth at least $100. Add in another $20 to $25 for the "slabbing" costs and ask yourself if it is worth it. I would keep it in an Intercept Shield 2x2 or one of the Whitman inert plastic 2x2's for display and storage.

I wouldn't...its your money and you can do what you like with your coins...but I would vote no.

Too many bag marks...and it looks to be a AU/BU slider.

MS-60 tops. Not worth a salb for the date!
