This coin looks very authentic to me, but I can't figure out why its not in the Std Catalog 1801-1900 (6th Edition, 2009).
Commemorative to the renovation of the Mary's Column in Munich in 1855.

Is this for some reason considered not a "real" coin?

Listed in the 5th edition and the new German Coins catalog as a 2 Gulden not a thaler.

Right you are, I got fixated on the seller's description of "Geschichtsthaler". Thanks!

Frank, for German coins minted 1800-1871 I would recommend one of the specialized german catalogues. I myself use the book by B. Stutzmann. The Jäger, AKS and Thun catalogues are also good, but more outdated I think. If you are coming to the Numismata-Frankfurt (19/20 th. November) you can obtain them there.

    Regards,
    Eduard
