German East Africa 1/4 Rupee Bracelet

    It’s a shame that these coins were mounted into this bracelet but it’s still a pretty intriguing piece…who would wear such a thing???

    At least the jeweler that made it did a good job. He silver soldered each link rather than drilling holes in them.
    They look like real coins and because of the connections, I'm sure they are, but the coin bracelets I've gotten are usually cast fake coins, so thats a big plus.

    I didn't realise they utilised different mints, in these cases Hamburg and Berlin.

    Were these coins worth a lot back then? If so, could be an opulent display of wealth. At the Getty there is a belt made of two dozen mounted late Roman solidi coins. That’s like a couple years worth of day laborer wages in one fashion item.

    could it be the same concept foe the bracelet?
