hey guys i'm new here and i'm trying to find out what this coin or token is worth. i can't find a picture or anything about it on the internet
It's a nice Medal, unfortunately it's not an authentic original Washington medal . Nice to have you join us at Cointalk.
I have a coin with Washington on the front and 1 Medal on the rear. I have no idea what it is. Is this a Washington Medal? .
on the reverse what does it say above " medal " ? I can't make that out. Wi ? perhaps Wilcox? or W.S. Baker ?
Interesting medal. If I come across some information, i'll be sure to post it for you. In the meantime, perhaps another member here can assist you. It could possibly be " Williams" , " Wilcox " . ???
I believe it's a Civil war token , obverse Fuld # 111 (check Standard Cat. of US Tokens 1700-1900 pg. 436) Still trying to figure the reverse.
Your pice looks like something perhaps the Franklin Mint might have produced, but don't take that as Gospel. I continued to search awhile last evening, however I could not come up with any information about this . Is it inscribed on the rim ?
I think I have located the identification on this . William Idler a dealer in coins, minerals , shells and antiques made Washington Medals. He was a major dealer in the early years of U.S. Coin Collecting and a noted Mint Insider. I'll continue to research to see if I can get some specific's about this issue. By the very fact that he was the medal maker, makes this a rare item. Very nice find. Can you tell me where it was found ?
Yes, that is without a doubt a Wm. Idler medal. I think if you do some independent research about this Philadelphia Coin Dealer, you will find that he was one of the front runners in the field of Numismatics for his time. I would still like to see what the other side looks like, if you would photo it. Once again I am forced to suggest that a submission to NCS may prove very beneficial . This medal survived for some reason. Perhaps you are it. Happy to be of assistance to you.
