I'm just wondering which banks charge you fees to order boxes, with or without an account. Also, along that vein, which banks are best for buying rolls of coins. I currently only go to TCF and Wells Fargo and am starting to get the desire to branch out. Thanks in advance
as for the fees im not too sure. I can usually go and get boxes of any denomination except for halves and dollars without ordering. as far as what banks are best....Pick one. They are generally all the same in my opinion. I usually try to get customer wrapped rolls. I have had better luck on CWR than BWR when it comes to finding silver. occasionally I pick up some BWR and get lucky. Your chances of finding what you are looking for solely depends on the volume you are searching.
your response just reminded me, which banks would have CWR's? I know that Wells Fargo doesnt, but again, I'm just looking for general ideas
This question can't really be answered with a black and white answer as it depends on an individual branch location and not necessarily every brand of bank out there. There is a Wells Fargo near me that is persistent in wanting to charge me for boxes ($7.50 for a box of cents, for example) but a Wells Fargo a few miles away is more than happy to sell me boxes without a fee. Obviously, it is easy to decide what location is a 'buy' bank and a 'dump' bank. It just depends on the attitude of the managment and tellers. I have received a great many CWR's from Wells Fargo. In fact, I went to a Well's Fargo a few months ago that had at least 100 rolls of CWR quarters available for me to buy. It just depends if customer's have brought them in or not. If they don't have them they will give you BWR's from the boxes that they order.
Oh alright. I just heard somewhere that Wells Fargo doesnt take rolled coin, so I assumed that they didnt have CWR's
That may be true of your local Wells Fargo branches. But what Wells Fargo (or Bank of America, or Chase, or Citibank) does in your area isn't always the same as what it does in another area. And like NOS said, what one branch of a particular bank does isn't always the same as what another branch a block away or a mile away or 50 miles away does. In fact, what one branch does one day isn't the same as what it will do the next. One branch of a bank that I don't have an account at will absolutely not sell me any rolls Monday through Friday. But on Saturday, when the vault manager isn't there, the tellers will happily let me clear them out so they don't have to count it up at the end of the night.
I would like to add that not all banks have fees and not all banks/branches impose fees on each customer. If you are a valued customer that particular branch may actually waive the fees. Conversely if you are considered to be less than valued the bank/branch may impost a fee just on you. Not really answering the question I know, but that's only because I just move on when a bank starts charging fees / limiting my ability to order or return coin.
I bank with Wells Fargo in the Triad of North Carolina. They have both CWR and BWR and it varies everytime I get rolls from them. So far, I haven't asked them to order rolls and I get about $40 worth of rolled coins per visit. If I ask for more, it gets two or three tellers involved and seems to annoy them and becomes somewhat disruptive with other customer standing in line. The banks around here are thinly staffed with a lot of young, inexperienced tellers, so there is a lot of waiting in line for service. My experience in finding silver in coin rolls is virtually the same better BWR & BWR.
No. I just take whatever they give me. It really doesn't matter to me whether they are BWR or CWR. Also, since I frequent the bank,I want to make it as smooth and easy for the tellers as possible. The bank is only five minutes from my home, so it's convenient. It's a branch bank, small but very busy.
hey doug, which wells fargo(s) do you go to? I am in the triad area as well. I generally go to bb&t or BOA though.
No. I don't specify because it really doesn't matter to me. I get similar results from BWR and CWR. Our branches are small and busy, so I try to keep things really simple for the teller. The happier they are, the more they are likely to do for you.
