gas bubbles

    Yes, that's plating bubbles.

    An easy way to tell if it's a plating bubble is to poke it with a toothepick and see if it collapses.

    And poking the coin is much safer than poking at a sleeping bear.

    And in case it is not a bubble the poking leaves nice scratches diminishing the coin value.

    i did that and nothing collapsed, so now i have the longest die chip

    Looks like they occur along a die crack, and that stuff in the 8 looks chipish.

    its a combo of die crack& plate bubblings
