I think for this year I am going to focus on US Mint products that I like such as proof and mint sets and commemoratives as I do every year. But I want to try and buy (usually on Ebay) high grades of PCGS or NGC graded coins. I will focus on common dates but try to get them in 69 or 70. Is anyone else trying any new strategies this year?
This year I will continue to up-date my existing and current coin collections with mint purchases. I won't be starting anything new so far as series or type. Been there and done that!:thumb:
To save and buy for quality pieces. To avoid buying a coin(s) just for the sake of buying a coin. Just because you walk into a coin shop doesn't mean you have to buy a coin. To complete my 1909 cent set (Lincoln and Indians) in MS63 grades or better.
I hope to complete my PF66 Franklin Half Dollar collection....I'm down to 5.... Also want to maybe buy a few off metal strikes.....and some errors like that. Speedy
My main strategy this year is for me to run a lot faster and a lot sooner before my dad looks at his credit card bill and sees US Mint on there.
This year I'm looking at odd denomination coins-(half cents, three cents, twenty cents, that kind of stuff) Just bought a decent Franklin today at the coin shop. But, that's all the plans for my 2006--- Except for a complete set of trade dollars:mouth:
Hi All This year I will complete my b.u. set with all proofs of my jefferson nickel set. 1938 to 2003 12 coins and 9 proofs to go and maybe I will find that 1944 no p henning counter feit, I have been looking for, the past twenty years
same here, those odd denominations always interested me. I dont have any, so i would like: half cent, 2 cent, 3 cent, 20 cent, and 2.5 dollar piece :smile
This year will be like all the others. Take advantage of some good deals when I see them, stay away from anything lower than AU, play the mint products game and by all means avoid ebay. A good solid game plan that will never let you down if you stick to it.
Avoid the risk and avoid the headaches. I just prefer and feel safer buying my coins at shows or from local dealers. I enjoy the experience of being right there, in person to see and inspect the coins that I want to purchase. By doing this, I feel that I greatly reduce my chances of getting ripped off and deceived and if I do I can only blame myself. Do I feel that I am missing bargains by avoiding ebay? Not really. My best "deals" were made by creating a good relationship with trustworthy dealers who know me personally, know what I have, what I am looking for and my price range.
Keep working on my uncirculated Mecury dime set along with nickel three cent pieces, two cent pieces, and 1955-date proof and mint sets.
Love obsolete denomination coins myself, lol... trying to expand my collection of them, so far only have a nickel 3 cent piece and a 2 cent piece. Love the history of the 2 cents... they were the first coin to have "In God We Trust" on them. Hoping to get at least one half cent and a decent condition 20 cent this year. Maybe a few silver 3 cents too. The twenty cent piece is my biggest priority... just love the novelty of a coin design that was a complete failure, lol... maybe that's why I have a soft spot for SBA dollars too. Would also like at least one coin minted in Carson City. Possibly get a CC 20 cent piece, so can kill two birds with one stone. Would like to get my Jefferson nickel set finished if possible. These just aren't that expensive and shouldn't be too hard to do.
Good plan-Think the 20 cents were only minted for 3-4 years and are a little too pricy for my savings account now I'd like to get a Morgan from CC sometime this year. Course, I said that last year too Like I said above, a little too pricy for me. But you NEVER KNOW, it'd only take one 1955 DD cent to get rid of that priblem For now I will just sit back and see how it all turns out :eating:-good luck building your collection this year to ALL---- Bill
Number one on the list is to continue to look for bargain priced silver and gold coins. I'll also continue to search pocket change and rolls to work on filling Whitman folders with modern stuff, and continue to explore the world of 19th century tokens from the US and Canada. If I'm lucky and diciplined, I won't start anything new.
