i picked this coin up the same time i got my recently posted postumus coin. i wasn't even aware of the type, but the same seller it for less than 30 bucks...it "wowed" me when i first laid eyes on it.. so i threw it in the cart as well.

Since both Bing and I appear to be focusing on our respective collections in very similar ways, we have trouble finding a little more room in our budgets for cool Celtic coins like those posted by you guys (Oki and Chrs)----but we'll get there eventually guys!!

hey, i had seen one before, i "liked" this one last october, i'm surprised i didn't remember it. so this coin may not be of the leuci tribe? i'll note that on my flip.

I should have made note of where I read that information, but I have it recorded as:

    CELTIC, High and Middle Seine
    1st century BCE
"Bald Head" potin, 17.6 mm, 3.4 gm
    Obv: bald head left
Rev: boar standing left; below, three semicircles stacked on the exergual line
Ref: BN 9100, Mon XV 989
Note: often attributed to the Leuci tribe, this type now seems to be classified as as uncertain, Seine.

Admittedly I don't know much about Celtic coins.

    Cool coin TIF!!!

I do love the variations of the Celtic coins---from highly stylized to the types like you and Chrs posted....completing a 'collage' of them by style and tribe/region should be impressive and filled with eye-appeal!! Sounds like a JA project, or have one of 'you' already done so???

Having only three Celtics so far, I haven't made a collage. There are perhaps a half dozen types I wish to collect. At this juncture, the primary appeal is simply that they are so odd and abstract. Maybe someday I'll develop a deeper interest.

Hey chrsmat, curious? => is your new baby a "cast potin"? (my 2nd example has a similar type of look to it, yes?)

    ... just wondering

    ;)
