A gold-plated coin is not an error coin just like a spray-painted coin is not an error coin. Does anyone collect gold-plated coins? I suppose some people collect them but I don't know of any serious coin collectors that collect them. I certainly would not pay a premium for them because the amount of gold used to plate them is worth only a few cents at best.
As our friend Hobo said... Also alot of sellers especially on eBay will take a coin and gold plate it to add "value" , this value is completely fake and is actually worthless but done get me wrong , alot of people fall for it "there is a sucker born every minute". Some of the most common coins I see gold plated ... state quarters and the two reichmarks coin from nazi germany....
