A little insight as to how these marking came to be?

It looks like this area but rotated... don't know what it would be called- a form of die clash?

The dime seems to be a stain, the quarter is post mint damage. something has scraped the metal and folded it back.

I have seen the same type mark on coin that had been left on a car dashboard.

The quarter seems to have a "die erosion" patch. These sometimes develop in late die states. They're called "patches" or "blebs". They're not die chips. For some reason, the die face develops these irregular, shallow pits. I can't tell what's going on with the dime. It looks like a stain.

I got 2 rolls of 2009 Harrison dollar. I came across 1 coin that has a nice jfm on the reveres side of the coin, and 3 double dies marks. 2 on the $ sign and 1 on the #1. The jfm is revered on the ream. Has anyone seen something like this before? I got around 20 reverse printings on the edge.

    Hi,

What you think of as doubled dies is likely what is known as machine doubling. A doubled die has a very specific look to it.

The edge lettering can be placed on the circulation coins in any direction. It just depends on the orientation of the coin when it went through the edge lettering machine. No effort is made to have the lettering in any particular direction so theoretically, half will be one way and half will be the other way.

    Thanks,
    Bill

I don't know about the dime, but the quarter is so badly dinged it is barely worth 25 cents, it might be a small die chip.

Pardon my ignorance but what is "jfm"?

I read about blems but not blebs ,and i thought blems only happen on a fake coin, because of the improper metal alloy content that is used i never heard about blebs before what is a bleb?

that's the letters on the lower right front side. He might be the guy who did the work on the image.
