I have wanted a full beard Geta for sometime. Finally got one pretty cheap about a month ago.

Since then I have seen many of these types with the same reverse. Not sure if it's a hoard thats being dispersed or what.

    Geta (209 - 211 A.D.)
    AR Denarius
O: P SEPT GETA PIVS AVG BRIT ,laureate head right .
R: LIBERALITAS AVG V , LIberalitas standing left with counting board and cornucopiae .
    Rome Mint, 211 A.D.
    3.7g
    18mm
    RIC 88, RSC 68

The reverse ends legend with "AUG V". The 'V' stands for the number of times donatives had been given at the time of the minting. "Liberalitas" signifies generosity.

Sometimes you can seen the hair growth even within the same issue...

    Geta denarius
Obv:– P SEPTIMIVS GETA CAES, Bare headed, bearded, draped bust right
Rev:– PONTIF COS II, Genius, naked standing left, sacrificing out of patera over lighted altar and holding corn ears
Minted in Rome. early A.D. 209
    Reference:– BMC p.274, 584. RIC 59a. RSC 114. 72 examples in RD.

BMC and RIC mention that the busts of Geta are bearded for this issue but this example doesn't show any trace of beard

It is interesting to speculate what history would be like if Geta had killed Caracalla? I know Geta was no saint but you cant really get worse than Caracalla!:vamp:
