OK my good friends. I present to you, one 1977-D Roosevelt Dime. Really nice condition but a friend of mine, well kind of, says it does not have full bands on the back. I say it does, and here are the pictures. I've looked up information on it and supplied a picture from the site, as an example, . Sure looks like full band to me. Your thoughts from the experts . Thank you.
I picked up about 30 Roosevelt's and in looking under a magnifying glass about half have two bands at the top of the torch and two bands at the bottom of the torch. I'm in a quandary here . Should I take them to the local coin shop and get their opinion ? I'm a lousy picture taker.
bear... we need a picture that we can see the bands all of the way from one side to another. These photos are not close up enough to be able to give you an opinion. Do you see the picture you referenced? that's barely close enough to be able to tell.
Can someone pull up a picture with Full Band and not the one above 'paddyman98' to show me? My camera is just not good enough to get the fine details of the coin.
The important part is that the lines reach from one side of the torch to the other with no interruptions.
Using a photo like your first one, try cropping out everything but the fasces of the torch and then resize it to about the size of your second or third photo. If it is too blurry, try reducing the size until the image is fairly clear. Chris
That is what these do. From one side to the other, no interruption. I need to take these to someone or send them to someone to double check. I'm confident in what I have here with these. Anyone want to help me out as to where to send them ?
ok, bear... here's the next step. Let's say for the sake of argument that the dime you own has full bands. Now what do you do? Before I did anything, I would try to find out if a 1977-D with full bands commands a premium high enough to cover the cost of certification or verification. That's right, try to determine what a coin with ALL of the bells and whistles sells for, and then figure out your next step.
Those bands are full and split, but this coin looks like a proof, which would have a S mintmark rather than a D. I will add that this is NOT the coin you originally pictured.
My apology, hat is what I'm saying. Both "S" and "D" Roosevelts have them. Here is the "S" and I have 19 of them .
