Was wondering what grade this would fall under pcgs etc. (Not sure which grading house to choose for this coin) and possible value. Think its a Newman 11X. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Wow. I can't wait to hear from the real experts, but I love the looks of it and know enough about Fugio cents to know that if it's legit then I can't afford it!
I don't know anything about these, other than I would love one. Here are cropped pictures to help. Can you tell us where you got it?
My recommendation would be to send it to PCGS, not just to have it graded but to certify it's authenticity. Mine is a Newman 12-X
I found it in an old toolbox that belonged to my gradfather with a coupl arcade tokens and old tools. Thought it was a token to. Then recently I decided to google it because of the date and I was shocked at what it is because it was just lying there with tokens, no case etc. Just getting dinged up. Glad i was able to rescue this piece of history befor it got lost or damaged.
Hopefully it is real. I am surprised more people have not chimed in. Whatever you do, DON'T clean it! Put it in a holder until you can get it graded.
Thanks. This was the only holder i had that would fit it cause the odd size. Will send it out today for grading.
I took it down to get authenticated at my local coin dealer. It is real. But i think they gave it a low evaluation of fine to vf and a value of $600.00. would this evaluation be on par for this coin? I will be sending it to PCGS for grading and was wondering what I should expect the grading to be and the length of the process and what other services i should have them do with this coin? Thank you all for the replies.
Right now they have a special where you can get free trueview and secure plus holder... I would do that. Also, son't sell it to the dealer until it is graded. He might be lowballing you. It can take over a month for pcgs to grade it (I have some coins there now). I could include it in my next submission if you are interested, or you might be able to have your local dealer submit it too.
No offense, but that's kind of hard to believe. I hope it's true, but it sounds too much like many of the stories that we hear about.
Thanks, lol. It is true.. Think its the law on how you find them. Or there a leprechaun hiding them with tokens Lol. I have read simular stories too. This is 100% true.
A coin that might be worth ~$1k (experts? opinions?) sitting in a toolbox for an indeterminate amount of time and not getting beat to smithereens... I guess stranger things have happened... just not to me ;-)
Yes it is quite remarkable. Dont think the toolbox has been moved in 40 years. At least not very much from what i remember as a kid it was always in same spot.
You have a reverse X, but not sure on the obverse die. Either way, looks real to me, i would put in the 15 range in terms of grade, although TPG would probably go closer to 30. Very nice coin with great surface, I have no difficulty believing the story, great find! In terms of price, I think you need to find out the variety first, but I don't think $1,000 is out of the range. I don't mind an estimate of $600 on this either to be frank.
Wow I wish I was that lucky. If it's real, you have a very very nice coin on your hands. As for the grade, I don't know enough about that to give good advice. I don't want to mislead you, but good luck on whatever you do with the coin.
