Vermont established its Sesquicentennial Committee in 1925. Among other duties it was tasked with coordinating the design of the 1927 commemorative silver half dollar. The final sculpture for the half was produced by sculptor Charles Keck (whom also designed the 1915 Panama Pacific $1 gold coin). I believe Keck also sculpted this medal due to the similar appearance of the catamount shared on the 1927 commemorative half dollar reverse. This medal was struck by the famous Whitehead Hoag manufacturer in New Jersey. Due to the fact there were very few members on the committee, there are few of these known to be in existence. Known documented specimens (not including this one): The Bennington Museum of Art,History, and Innovation: Two examples containing a committee shield with blue ribbon and an example with a chairman shield and blue ribbon. An un-pictured committee specimen was sold at a 2013 auction with Swann Galleries for an unlisted sale price. A specimen with committee shield and maroon ribbon posted on the NGC coin forum in 2015. Please see the pictures for condition of the medal/ribbon. Cost is $130 with free shipping to CONUS. Prefer Paypal FF or USPS MO.
