On any FRN would you consider a miss alignment of serial numbers, bank numbers, and seals of any importance? The $1 bill in the photo has several small misalignments. What do you think? Also when people collect objects the objects can be very important or unimportant today, but then in the future they can become the opposite of what they were before. Do you think the misalignments in this bill could or could not become important in the future? But also if these misalignments were a little more profound,
Based on the photo provided, any misalignment is so slight as not to be worth any premium. It is probably withing BEP guidelines. As far as what will be worth any premium in the future...who knows! People's likes and dislikes change with the tide. Your question reminds me of a period of time when old metal milk cans were all the rage at local auctions. People would bid them up to between $25 and $50 on average. About a year later you could get one for about $5. However the most remembered change in desire/value were "beanie babies". Worth thousands one day and garage sale giveaways a few years later.
Photo is very blurry but I don't see anything. Most notes are not going to be perfectly centered. I don't see any digits in the serial out of alignment. And if they were, they need to be drastic to be worth anything.
Meow thinks he is talking about green treasury seal being a little northwest rather than being centered. Meow has seen bills that have the seal more than an 2 inches off from were it was supposed to be. Meow thinks this bill is would have very little premium, if any.
If you look at all four fours and the entire serial number on the right and the seal on the left and (right,as you mentioned) and the serial number on the left, they are all in misalignment with 10 other bills I checked that had the number 4 on them. I myself do not believe it's a significant amount of misalignment. Of course all of this is just looking at the dollar bill and at the averages of this where all this is. That Jay on the right is real close to that leaf. That's what started this whole thing LOL. All that I mentioned is are the average 1/8 in off of what I've seen to be average on the $1 bill. If all of this was a quarter inch off or more and the Stars fell out of the sky, and certain collectors were heavy into the sauce that day they might just fetch a pretty good premium. LOL
Meow feel the error notes should much more significant that this. A good error is distinguishable even at a glance. Since a note is so much bigger than a coin, Meow thinks small errors on notes are like die chips the size on pinpricks on a coin. Now if a bill looked like this, Meow would be excited.
Agree with previous posts - any currency error worth saving will be immediately noticeable and 'jump out' at you, compared to typical examples
The black seal seems a little high, but that means the green should be high as well and it's not. The serials look within range. I don't see anything off with the four black 4's. Perhaps a smaller clearer photo compared with a normal one to show this massive misalignment. Currently I am at $1 on your bill.
I would have to agree with everyone else who believes a note would have to be much more seriously out of alignment in order to really matter. However, this is your note. If you think it's enough out of alignment to keep, then by all means, keep it. Remember, your collection is always your collection. Whatever you want to keep, to show friends, to talk about, to learn from (as in what is not major misalignment), etc., is totally and completely up to you. Just to be honest here, I've got notes that I first kept because some of the serial numbers were thick ink, and others with single digits of the serial number out of alignment vertically, and some others that were, when I first found them, "important" errors, or so I thought. I've since learned better, thanks to Coin Talk !! , but I still keep them. My collection is my collection, and it only needs to, and it's only meant to, please me. I learn from CT !! what has value, and I keep that also. Thanks for posting. You're always welcome to show anything you have and ask any questions you want.
Are you saying you bought that note for $175.00 !?! If so, I would think that is WAY over priced, personally. I collect currency, but I'm far from an expert. Michael K PlanoSteve SteveinTampa are all good with currency, amongst others.
What is going on with that dollar? It has rainbow colors under the top lettering, and on the horizontal bars near the bottom. Wouldn't be so bad if it was in at least a little bit better condition.
I saw that also, however I thought it might be the lighting or the photography. If those colors are actually on the bill due to some BEP error, then perhaps that's where the high value comes from. I agree on the condition. To me, and unless I'm missing something (which is entirely possible) that is only a $20 - $30 dollar item.
