I'm not sure .. but here's info about it from CoinTalk ==> https://www.cointalk.com/threads/fev-or-not-fev-that-is-the-question.206485/ and more ==> https://www.usacoinbook.com/coins/5.../type-1-friendly-eagle-accented-crater-lines/ but myself, I see a brow line above the Eagle's eye. So it's a "non FEV" to my eagle eyes.
Thanks @Clawcoins for the links. I'm gonna say "no" due to @KTO's comment in the CT thread stating: "The term 'Friendly Eagle Variety' comes from the characteristic lack of a brow line above the eagle's eye, which makes the eagle appear less foreboding." It looks like your eagle still has his eyebrow...
You realize the problem here, right? Landing on the moon, even with a laurel branch, is NOT gonna get the eagle fed. FISH!
So let me understand this. Is this another subtype for 1971-D, similar to the 1972 Philly "Caribbean on earth" varieties? You're really gonna make me get out my Ike rolls AGAIN???
I don’t see the brow line. Looks to be an FEV, but can’t be 100% with your pics. Go to http://www.ikegroup.info/?page_id=216. They list all the characteristics needed to be a FEV. Best of luck!
I looked at 3 that sold on HA and I couldn't see the difference between them and this one. I guess the only way to be certain is to send it off. Thanks, b
I see maybe a brow line. more one there, than not there? But hey, send it off for grading/verification as you never know and I'm certainly not an expert at it. from usacoinbook.com
I have to side with Brad here. I think it IS a FEV, IF the pictures on the usacoinbook.com link above are accurate. Both the eagle's head AND the relevant crater show it to be one. Now if that link is wrong, all bets are off. I wish I had enough mag. to see the shape of the Gulf.
I was looking at the other characteristics as well, more definition on the craters, the map. I'm very new at this so I appreciate trained eyes.... However, it is such an expensive gamble, sending one off. Well, for me it is...
What kind of premium does this'n carry? [Your answer will decide for me whether to dig out my Ike rolls.] [/grumble, grumble] I just got done getting my Type II 1972 and thought I was done.
I think they're right. FEV now that I look closer and identify it better from the lower left being the same, and the 3 splits later on that don't exist on your coin in detail. and take a look at the other indicators https://www.usacoinbook.com/coins/5.../type-1-friendly-eagle-accented-crater-lines/
eBay recently PCGS MS64 sold for $7.50 ANACS MS65 RDV-006 (sometime else to look in to) sold for $105.00 raw FS-901 RDV-006 sold for $20
Okay, that's friendly enough. To the back of the closet I go! Something else to "pick" in Philly, I guess. All my Ikes are raw, so at least I'm not facing slabbing fees.
It’s a keeper for sure. However the premium is not enough to cover the grading cost for your coin. Value is $10-15.
