I was looking at one of my Barber Quarters and it hit me that not only is tomorrow Friday the 13th but there are a ton of 13s represented on the quarter. None of these are news but some of you may not have been aware of them all. Of course, the 13 refers to the original 13 colonies. obverse: 13 stars 100+13 denticles ( I counted four times and got two 113s and two different numbers) reverse: 13 stars 13 arrows in the eagle's claw 13 leaves on the olive branch in the eagle's other claw 13 letters in the words E PLURIBUS UNUM 13 vertical bars in the shield 13 letters in the words QUARTER DOLLAR 100+13 denticles (I think)
Interesting trivia, but I must rain on some of your parade. There are 116 denticles on the obverse and 114 on the reverse. Don't understand the difference, but I marked the pic as I counted and twice got exactly the same answer.
I'm sure that's correct. After I posted I thought I remembered reading somewhere that there were 114 denticles but when I was counting I could only get to about 25 before my eyes started seeing double. I just went with the number that I came up with twice. I should have printed the picture out and marked them as I counted. The 113 didn't really make any sense or connection with the number 13.
I am not into silver and their denticles, but is it common for their to be a different number on the front and back? I counted on you pic and marked every 10. Then double checked each 10. I am pretty sure my numbers i got are correct.
The ops coin has the numbers 13 in the date. 13 years later the Denver mint opened & made the first D mint Barber quarter. Thanks for the fun thread. Happy Friday. collect89
Well, it's hard to tell whether or not it is spocky. The top of her ear is covered, so we don't know whether it is pointy or not. Phoenix
