I know it's Friday night and it's near a ghost town here on CT as usual. However, I purchased a couple of LRB's I thought I would post just to have something to do and possibly garner a little discussion. This first is a Maximianus which I do not believe is anything special. RIC lists this as common, which I believe; however, I do not remember seeing any like this before I bought it. I checked the normal sellers and ACsearch just to find there are some out there, but not a large population. Any insight about scarcity is more than welcome. MAXIMIANUS AE Post reform radiate OBVERSE: IMP C M A MAXIMIANVS PF AVG, radiate bust right REVERSE: / VOT dot XX S in three lines within laurel wreath Struck at Ticinum, 299 AD 2.33 grs. 19.50 mm RIC 36b Oh, BTW, post any coins you think appropriate!!!
Cool addition, not a reverse I see often with him either. But this is an area of imperials that I ho-hum too.
Nice coin! I have to put this one on my want list - it's the first time I've seen a Vota/Wreath type on a bronze of Maximian. I have a few to throw into the ring. Ant that I picked up in Gettysburg... And a couple of very glossy folles that I can't get good pics of, Galerius and Maximian...
Here's my only Maximian, from Carthage: (it's since been taken out of the 2x2 but I don't have new photos of it yet)
man, i don't have much from this guy either. i'll make everyones coins look nicer by posting this ugly thing.....recently seen on the ugly coin thread. bing, your new lrb coins have very similar surfaces....did you get them together?
Nice. I bought this one for similarly. Galerius, as Caesar, AE Post-Reform Radiate Fraction. 297-298 AD. MAXIMIANVS NOB C draped & curiassed bust right, VOT XX & officina letter [?] within laurel wreath. Cohen 247. Rome RIC VI 87b
I dunno... the Vot in wreath types from this period seem rather scarce to me. Here's a Maxentius follis fraction from Rome. MAXENTIUS 1/3 Follis (1.8g, 17mm) Rome mint, 310 - 312 AD RIC 281a O: MAXENTIVS PF AVG, laureate head right. R: VOT/Q·Q/MVL/X in four lines within laurel wreath.
