Just finished imaging these...have had them for years (ever since purchasing them from a fellow CT member - I think - a LONG time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...) and I'm just now getting around to imaging them. I think I did a halfway decent job. Note: It's a real shame that absolutely NONE of the other coins in the sets have toned even slightly...just the silver. But I'll still happily embrace this pair of springboks that will probably head to NGC to use up part of my renewal account credit 1967 Proof 1 Rand Note: I'm really, REALLY happy that the springbok side has the rainbows, as I enjoy that design quite a lot. The "leopard spot" toning on the obverse sure is kind of nasty...but I'll live with it. It's not nearly as bad as a proof Austria 5 Schilling I got where one side is brilliantly purple and green...and the other side is sooty black and gray. 1965 Proof 1 Rand Note: the obverse color on this one is amazing, and the reverse toning isn't quite a detraction as the 1967's obverse. Almost looks as though the springbok is jumping through a cloud of dust on its way to Chick-Fil-A - that's what they eat, right? Haha... I will say I do NOT care for the obverse portrait design at all. But the pastel rainbow makes it a keeper... Feel free to share your own South African Mint toners - let's see some gorgeous coins!
I've never seen a pure nickel coin with toning of any sort. I'm surprised the bronzes haven't toned, though. Nice coins!
