Ok so now that I have your attention.... I have this one lonely gold coin, it doesn't fit my collection of nickels and silver coins so I figured it would make someone out here pretty happy... Especially if it was free... I'm willing to give it away, but I want to do it as a contest.

So to start, what kind of contest?? I'm looking for help on putting together an original, fun, challenging, and interesting contest that is related to coins. So before the "FREE GOLD CONTEST" begins I'm taking ideas and input! If I end up using your contest idea, I've got a Silver Eagle coin I'll award for the help given!!

How about a trivia contest? Post 1 coin question per day, first to answer gets a point, first person to get XX points wins.

OR "Guess the gold coin." Give each member only 1-2 guesses per day. You must guess the date and type.

    here's my 2¢...

Have a daily puzzle ( a word jumble, a guess this picture, some sort of conundrum ) with each day's answer giving a clue to a larger puzzle. The first one to guess the larger puzzle wins the gold coin.

    for example:

Each day for a week you give a jumbled word - one per day. Each jumbled word refers in some way in this example to Morgan Dollars... One day it might be silver, one day george, one day cartwheel, etc. The first person to tell me that the theme is Morgan Dollars wins! Some might get it after only 3 days, some may not get it after 10 days, but everyone can participate every day in the smaller puzzles and have fun trying to guess the larger ones.

    Q. How much, in dollar amount, have all the U.S. mints (Philadelphia, Denver, San Fran, Charlotte, Dahlonega, Carson City, New Orleans) minted for both business strikes and proof's. The person closest to the answer wins.

    A. (I've got the answer hidden under lock and key ;) )

How about asking every participants a story..

    for example..

    1. what is my favorite coin among the favourites?
    2. what is my dream coin?
    3. or just what can they say about this great hobby?
    4. so on and so forth..

    :eek:hya::rolleyes::smile

Is it a Japanese Keicho-Sasagaki Oban Kin, minted ~1601, 153mm x 95mm, 165g, .800 fine (AGW 4.2504 oz.), graded "Top" in the 3-point Japanese grading scale, catalog value (JNDA '07 Ed.) ¥45-million (~$378,000) [IMG]

    No?

    Oh well. [IMG]

You should do a webquest, we have to find certain things on the web and link them (Coin related). No one can use a link more than once. Look at the "year long contest" thread, very similar to that.

A contest should really be an even contest. It shouldnt favor one coleector over the other a us coin collector over a world coin collector. Having said that my suggestion would be to have a contest where everyone has a chance young, old, american, foreign. You name it. How do we design a contest. simple have a list of 12 questions or tasks one needs to complete (that one wont find over the internet or a book ) and that requires intelligence. The person who finishes those 12 tasks wins the coin. If there is a tie then have a tie braker 13th question that is very very difficult. Put a time limit and you will have a deserving winner.

:D Sorry i have been reading to many mystery books. So if i am over the top please excuse but I do think this could be a lot of fun. :)

You can send it to the winner of my worn coin contest. Maybe this is just a shameless plug for my contest but you can feel free to borrow the idea. :mouth:

I agree with spock. Make it a contest that anyone can compete in. Make it multi-part as well. (Don't make it too demanding, remember, you have to judge all the answers). There's nothing worse than entering a contest thread to realize that it's geared towards the RPM crowd, or the 19th Century US silver crowd, etc. I'd also suggest that you make it something where we have to do a little research as well. Maybe in the form of a logic puzzle.

What is wrong with that? :D lol, just joking. I like the idea of making it fair for everybody. Maybe make it a contest that is a guess the grade, but include like 5 or 10 coins or so, and each one has a certain amount of points. Such as coin #1 if graded correctly gets 2 points, or coin #3 gets 4 points, and so on. And then include a bonus coin or so that you can award 10 points to those that guess correctly. And in case of a tie, add another coin, and whoever guesses correctly wins! My idea. Good luck with our contest. :thumb:

Some excellent Ideas!!! This isn't going to be easy, I'm gonna wait a few days to see if any more interesting ideas trickle in, then I'll sit down and put something together. So for now, keep those ideas coming, you are welcome to submit more than one idea!!!

We could do it like that TV show "The Great American Race" and whoever makes it to your house first gets the coin!!!! Just a thought.

How about the first one to answer this thread named " BRUCE WINS" :D all kidding aside I think a good thing would be a coin trivia contest that way we can all learn something new about coin history.

    Bruce.

dak, another thing i forgot to mention in my last post. This si a gold coin contest. Many people here cannot afford gold coins and some here will never ever own one. This might be thier only chance so lets make it so that win or lose they enjoy it a lot. I suggest one task be a some sort of treasure hunt. and another task be something where the other contestants have to vote for a contestant other than them selves. Just some ideas.
