Are there sites or places to go to get free coins? Just yes or no, please don't criticize.. I'm just asking..
What do you mean by "free coins"? Lots of websites give free coins when you buy a certain dollar amount, some have contests for free coins. I don't really think there are any where you give your address and they send you coins. If there is such a place, there won't be for long because they'll be a deluge after people find out.
Well you did only ask for a yes or a no To contribute though, I can't say I know of any such websites.
Most of the time I give away free coins with things I sell...and I know many other sellers do that as well. Aside from that and contests, that is about all I know of.
My son always gets free coins at coin shows. I don't mean to imply anyone is giving him AU 1877 IHCs or anything, but he does leave with usually 3-5 dollars worth of free coins. He got one coin I think it was ten or twelve dollars. The lady who owned the coins let him have it for half price because of his manners. I tried and tried that, didn't work for me. It is amazing in this hobby how collectors and dealers are always so fond of seeing kids interested in this hobby.
An ebay seller, Mike's coins, sends me e-mails, and once in a while he sells ikes or president dollars for a buck, free shipping.
Well, I can tell you that any forum that I go into people get free coins. I know I give away probably 4-5 a month to people. Just my way of giviing a little back here and there. There is one forum in particular that it happens on a daily basis. Forum is run by Jim Archibald called USCC. http://uscoin.ning.com/ We even have an area now called R.A.O.K that gets used daily.. Stands for Random Act of Kindness. Is working great.
At the Indiana State Show they have a YN auction. Anyone 18 and under can attend. For just showing up you are given $250 in auction money you can use to bid on the coins in the auction. There are also ways that the YN's can earn extra auction dollars (attending club meetings, making a presentation, exhibiting at a show etc.) What ever you win in the auction you get to keep, free. When you are out of auction dollars your out. (no pooling money with others) Some of the the stuff in the auction is exactly that, stuff, but there have also been some really good items in the auctions as well. This year there was a 1/10 oz AGE, a couple of CC morgan dollars and plenty of other silver dollars , ASE's, older type coins etc. In the past I have even seen platinum coins in the sale. Why didn't they have these things when I was a junior???
