I got openoffice already, Im on the spreadsheet, can you give me any help of how I use it to organize my coins?
I'm sure there are some tutorials online on how to use a spreadsheet program, perhaps on youtube. If it were me and wanted to do it for free, I would just make columns with Denomination, Year, Type/Series, Variety, Price, Grade, Comments, Photo, etc etc, perhaps some ID number system. Detecto was recently discussing using one in a thread, just search for it.
A couple questions. Do you or will you need it for just US coins, or for world coins as well ? You say you want software, that means to me that you want a free program that you can install on your own computer, is that correct ? I ask because I do not know of any programs (software) that are free. But there are a great many web sites that will allow you to do what you want for free. But the software that does it for you is hosted on their computers and you have to access their web site every time you use it. Coinconnection would be one of those.
Well any program, like an online one is just as good. It does not have to be neccesarily a software, just a place where i can organize my collection, and World Coins would be good to organize as well, but my main focus is U.S. coins now. to gbroke: Gbroke, honestly Im sticking with your Coinnection, not only do I not need to deal with building a spreadsheet, but the program is very nice for organizing coins is very nice so I joined it and I find it dmiple, and effective. Im glad you give it for free, but membership perks might be worth getting. Honestly I love the method and convience of organization, so Im extatic that you created such a wonderful program.
The spreadsheet software from Apache Open Office is called Calc and here is some sort of tutorial on how to use it in general. I hope this helps. Free/open-source means you gotta put in some effort sometimes Edit: nevermind, you already chose!!
