Sometimes I come across a deal where it seems much better to buy in bulk than only do the regular shopping. This week, I found myself at Menard's and they had a sale on their cases of water, at 1.88 a case, and no indication of a limit. I could only buy six the first time, because I had other things from there I needed to fit in my car, but I have been back to pick up only water, and have gotten as many as 20 per trip (small car). I have figured that modestly with what might last me a year for personal drinking, I will save just over 60.00 at the least and the absolute best thing I can do with that savings is to get a coin.... or be able to afford a coin in slightly higher grade. I plan on one or two more trips to the store for that water... Maybe my savings will be more like 75.00. This is ok, because barring some unfortunate problem at my place, bottled water is fine for at least two years.
I know quite a few places that the residents had to truck water. I'll be looking forward to your new coin or coins.
*update* found an upgrade for me. I have a 1904 O Morgan in MS63. With the money I am saving on water, I decided to upgrade my somewhat run-of-the-mill lower MS grade and common Morgan to one that is common but a higher grade (with the bonus in that it is earlier in the series). So have just selected on ebay a 1881 S at MS66. Possibly the earliest date I may be able to afford this high a grade, and most in this grade are way beyond my reach. With the upgrade from the money saved on water and if I sell my 1904 O, I will probably only be into my new coin for 75.00 or less more than I am into a Morgan now. Good deal!
