Ok, I am a serious high grade Franklin collector. Yes you can call me a PIG. I love to chase old Silver coins with a limited amount of years of minting the series. Also love the different strikes that were available in Proof, Pr/Cam/Proof Deep/Ultra Cameo.

So, here is my question? Do you think the majority of high graded Franklins are all ready graded?

I do think they are. I believe the recent changes in the TPG"S grading of such Franklin coins hinder the chances of the Highest grades because of environmental clashes with the coins. Many collectors are so careful in their protection of coins that one bump/hit or just plain old stale air can damage the beauty and originally of the Franklin Half Minted Dollar.

Please offer your opinions on this topic. I recently sold a few High Dollar lots for over book value and interesting thing some of the buyers wanted more of the same. ty G

no not all of em, at least not the couple dozen my dad has had stashed away for the past 50-60 years or longer, last time i looked at them they still looked like they were minted yesterday an they are not slabbed an they wont get graded until i one day inherit them, i tried to talk him into it, told him i'd pay, but he thinks if he sends them out in the mail he'll never see them again (stubbern ol man;) ).

These Franklins aren't in anywhere near mint condition, but they were found in CIRCULATION in 2013. How rare must not only one, but TWO Franklins in circulation today? The same guy spent both coins:

What do you mean by high grade? If it's MS64 then there are likely upwards of a million or more raw, but if you mean MS67FBL then that number would be quite a bit smaller.

I have never seen a Franklin that I didn't like, high grade or not.

What do you mean by high grade?

Hi Tom, I meant FBL 67 and mostly proof/cam/deep cameo 68 and +. I think most of those grades are out in the hobby and have been slab.

FYI. I know some have a few tuck away, but the majority that's were I am aiming.

Heck if I am wrong, I am wrong :)

No Frankiln is worth 4k. I'm just as happy with my 2 for $1 Franklins with patina than I would be with this one.

That coin is not mine, by the way. Although I have a 1951 Franklin that is BU-MS.

How many staples does it take to hold a Franklin in place? There are 8 in that 1963.

I think your right about the number in the wils being low for high grade MS or Proof coins. most nice Franklins have been thru a few hands by now and the better ones have been picked out. and even the few that are socked away from back in the day. how many are in the higher grades? gotta be a small % of them. that's why the known high grades are rare .
