I was thinking about putting together a set of Franklin halves. I would like for the entire set to be uncirculated (or as close as I can reasonably afford). What would be the easiest/most affordable way to do that? Would buying the mint sets for a few of those years be more cost effective than buying each one individually? Also, there is a coin show coming to my area in a couple weeks. I haven't been to one of those in a very long time...can I expect good prices/deals?
Yes coins shows will be a good place----you can always get the price lower if you try....when looking at a coin just don't pay any mind to the price on it and look at the dealer and ask what he will take for it.....most of the time they will go down. And never act like you are happy with the price....sometimes it goes lower....when I find a coin I need I ask the price and then look around his coins for a few mins. longer and sometimes he will come back with a lower price while I'm still looking. As for the best way to find them---I would get them one by one....on mint sets the coins might not be as good as you can find just by themselves. Speedy
I absolutely agree with Speedy. And I am thinking about putting together the Franklin set too when I finish my partial set of Walking Libs.
The "easiest/most affordable" option would be to shop around for a complete set. I would say, "no". A Mint set is usually sold for more than the price of an uncirculated half dollar coin. My limited experience has been that, in general, I can purchase some items cheaper at a coin show, than I can on eBay, or from my regular coin dealers. Much of what you pay will depend on you, and your buying skills. Good luck. :thumb:
I bought a dansco album with a starter set of 7 frankies in it. Been adding to, roll searching, buying silver lots and the like to fill holes. I finished the date/MM collection to day in fact with my 1955 D There are quite a few in the album that are AU/BU now with a lot of well circulated. Now I can slowly upgrade to all AU BU or MS. I think all said and done with album and extras I have in 2X2s I have donated about $200 total to other folks' dreams to complete her. Now all I need is the later years of Kennedys and early Walkers. Come on Santa lol
