Franklin Half Grade?

So I was digging out some currency (really) and stumbled on this Franklin half.

BU coin, that I'm sure of but get beyond that with a Franklin and I'm at a loss. Color is off in the scans - it's white.
Some digs on the obverse but a real clean reverse. Not strong enough to go FBL in my opinion.

Common date - just looking for your opinions for the heck of it.

I'll agree with DJ and call it MS63.

I'd say a MS-62. Still, a very nice coin. :thumb: Slightly weak on the Bell lines, and a few hits, but not to bad. Just enough to keep it from being an FBL unfortunatly. Still, a very nice Franklin Halve IMO. :thumb:

I got to agree with the MS63 FBL.
If those hits were not there on the cheek and jaw, I'd slip it to a 64 FBL.
Looks like a late die stage with the die polishing around the mouth and ect.

    Nice coin !

I just picked up to MS65 FBL Frankies today, myself.

u hit the nail onthe head clembo the reverse is far better than the obverse still a great find. i would grade it a 61 though those marks are one too many.

Lot's of hits on the obverse. Strong bell lines on the reverse, bottom set. Too bad there are so many hits. MS-62 FBL.

I appreciate the responses everyone. EVEN Treashunts!

I'm not a Franklin nut per se and have always found them difficult to grade. Nice coins but as many of you know I really like my odd denominations as I'm an odd person.

Interesting to see what grades you all tossed out. Guess I'm a bit on the strict side when it comes to this coin. Liberty Bell mentions the hits on the face and, yes, there are many. The bell lines are decent to me but not sure I'd go FBL.

I would put it at MS61-62

Don't even remember where I got this coin but judging by the writing on the 2x2 I'm thinking I picked up at a show cheap. Most likely and impulse buy.

I have a hard time grading Franklins, myself.
I usually grade it with similar standards of other coins (generally) and then bump it up a grade.
I let this one slide a little, due to it appearing to be struck with well worn dies.

I'd say an easy MS 62 with almost FBL but not quite there. Nice coin to just come upon in your collection.

I'm with Frank on this one - any other coins you're not nuts about that might be laying around - you just let us know and we'll be right over to help pick them up! :D:D

For a 52, I'd say it's not too shabby - I'm 13 years newer and looking a little more worn than that - of course I'm pretty well circulated!

63 I'd say. As for the FBL, that depends on who's standards you use. PCGS might say yes on a good day, NGC never would.
