I was delighted to be able to acquire one of these rather rare Franco-Dahomean War Campaign Medals. The experience has fueled my interest in collecting other French colonial campaign medals and contemporary French coins.

Thanks for sharing. Having lived in Francophone West/Central Africa in the 1970's and having several interactions with the French Foreign Legion, this brings back memories.

 

Thank you, for your comments, @Robidoux Pass ! When I was a kid, I wanted to join the French Foreign Legion. I considered it again while visiting France in my mid-twenties. My interest in French military history and coinage was born during those years.

 

I was told years ago the members of the FFL were amused that Americans "wasted" part of their booze money buying underwear.
