This week I have been moving all my coins out of my home and into a officespace, I have been sitting on about 40 Kilos of coins from the republic era that I was going to throw away as they are not worth the space they take. But before I put them in them went trough them and found 4 error coins today. The one on the right is the first I have found in this type of coin. Left 10 Kronur Middle 5 kronur Right 5 aurar Now this one is a first, Never seen anything like it Siggi
About the only thing I can think of that would cause something like that would be for a piece of wire to have gotten jammed between the planchet and the collar. A collar strike through error. It can't be a cracked collar because the groove in incuse. It can't be something raised on the collar that created the groove because in that case the coin could not be ejected form the collar without completely destroying the reeds on one side of the groove. But a strike through would form the groove, conform to the reeds, be ejected with the coin and then fall away leaving the groove. Another possibility would be some form of Post Mint Damage that crushed the reeds after striking. The fact that the reeds seem to bevel down into the groove tends to support that possibility. I would expect a collar strike through to have the reeds sharp up to the edge of the strike through and drop off sharply into the groove.
LOL, the way your luck has been going, there must be at least 1 Kilo of gold mixed in with that junk pile!
Don't throw those coins away, sell them! (Just making sure you do, wouldn't want you to lose out on some good cash)
