I got this from a hoard I searched today. Newest coin was a '72 cent. But had 43-'64 Washingtons in it. I believe this is a type B Sorry about the scans. Still haveing probs with pics. Thanks gary
Looked it up on eBay. 4 are listed and this one might fetch around $20 or so. It looks a lot better in hand than the scan, but I don't use photoshop editing software. I'll just stick it in a drawer for now.
Nice find, and it is indeed a Type B. Since you don't use Photoshop, here you go. Wave over the pic to zoom:
Man, that helped a LOT ! Looks like I maybe oughtta start learning how to do that. Just seems every time I try and use a photo editor, it is very time consuming and difficult to do. But your pics look a lot closer to the actual coin than the scans do, for sure. Actually, it;s not a bad circulated quarter. I will add it to the binders. Thanks, gary
Yes Kenny, I've been dang lucky this year for sure. But when you can't golf or drive and hate "Judge Judy & Oprah", there's not many things to do but look at coins. My friend W Slaughter has discovered more dies probably than anyone. Most of the cents on coppercoins are his. I believe. He has helped me a lot. And to quote him "Ya gotta keep looking". At least we know the stuff is still out there. I picked up a ton of info from the guys here and help on identifying the stuff. The guys here are golden. I don't think there is a better "waste of time" out there. lol gary
Congrats Gary! Funny enough I am going through a hoard that I am selling for a friend and I think I found a type B reverse on a 57.
A type B is a different reverse type on a Washington quarter. You can tell that it is a type B if the A in DOLLAR is touching the leaf above it.
Here are the markers and a good explanation: http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=26&threadid=755934
Washington Quarters were made with 3 reverses. Type A which is the regular one, Type B which was used for Proof coins and Type C which was used for clad coinage beginning in 1965. It's rare, but not impossible to find circulated coins struck with the type B dies. The type C is only found on 1964 D I believe. I have looked at a lot of those and still haven't found one. And this is the only type B I have been lucky enough to come across.
I don't believe it is. Compare it to a known proof and look at the seperation between the "E" & "S" in STATES. The type B has a wide noticable gap, while the normal is nearly touching. It's much like the difference in the WAM varieties of Cents. Then check the other markers, but that's where I start. gary
After viewing this thread I decided to look through my silver quarters and lo and behold I found a 1963 type B. Anyone have a clue what this would be worth in the MS 64-65 range?
